- Review infection records, sleep symptoms, bleeding history, other conditions and anaesthetic fitness; sleep testing in selected cases.
How is care planned?
- Compare surgery with observation and appropriate medical care. Adenoid removal is a separate decision.
- Technique and postoperative pain/feeding plans are individualised.
What follow-up and recovery care is needed?
- Throat/ear pain and discomfort eating can occur. Follow written pain, fluid, diet and activity advice and avoid dehydration.
Which risks and limitations should be discussed?
- Bleeding, dehydration, infection and anaesthetic complications; bleeding can occur days after surgery.
When is prompt or emergency care needed?
- Fresh blood, vomiting blood or repeated swallowing of blood after surgery needs emergency assessment, even if bleeding stops.
